Our Mission

The Lawrence Autism Society is a community of parents, families, educators and service providers working together to improve the lives of individuals with Autism.

Society members also act as ‘first responders’ to families new to the Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis, providing information and support. We can be reached at lawrenceautismsociety@sunflower.com.

It's Movie-Time!

Check our calendar events for info regarding a special (sensory-friendly) showing of Beauty and Beast on January 29th at 12:00!  Lights will be up; sound will be down and wiggling is totally acceptable.

Southwind will host a special viewing for families who have kids on the spectrum.  Sunday, January 29th at noon!

How families might be impacted by new diagnostic criterias for autism

This is an interesting article in the NY Times Health section.  Long ago I had posted an inquiry into people's thoughts on the proposed diagnostic changes.  I was hopeful that including folks with Asperger's Syndrome fully into the Autism umbrella would help them get services.  But that doesn't appear to be the case:

Hi ho, this is your friendly neighborhood webmaster. If you've tried to register in the past, go ahead and try again. I've made some changes that should both prevent spam and let everyone register. Hooray!

Remember that you do need a valid email address to register for an account. That's where your registration confirmation is sent. Without it, you can't log in. I only point this out because I've had a couple registration attempts that looked legit - and then their confirmation email bounced.
